We were bring eldest one and her friend up to lakes so XYL and myself decided to stay for a few days.
Decided on a circular walk to do Stony Cove Pike and High Street starting from near the bottom of Kirkstone Pass at Caudale Bridge
We didn’t have the earliest start and it was tough going a step long ascent. XYL and radio dog did well but the weather started to change and the wind picked up.
Quick check on how we were all doing and decided to push on to Stony Cove Pike but come decided to abort the walk to High street and come down the path to the top of the Struggle.
Once we got to the summit of G/LD-018 I got the anytone out and started calling CQ on 2m , got an almost instance reply from M3TMX/p who was up on the fells himself but not on a summit.
Worked 2 more stations G6AEK and M6KWB both near Blackpool , with 3 in the log quite quickly I hoped to be done and moving as it was getting cold and the wind was still blowing a hooley.
Took 20 more mins to get my 4th contact which was a S2S with M0WL/p on Gummers Howe G/LD-050.
Was happy to have got 4 but all three of us were feeling the cold now so got packed up and started to head down.
As it was going to be a long walk back down Kirkstone Pass I offered to get the car whilst XLY and dog stayed at the pub but when we got to the pub to our horror it was closed for renovations.
The rain had started now and we had a very damp walk down Kirkstone Pass back to car.
About 12K in total and 805m elevation gained over the entire walk.
Stopped in Ambleside for a well earned pint before heading back to the YHA and tea and some dry clothes.
