G5LSI and myself had been talking for a while about activating a park for POTA. G5LSI had already done some parks but i was still a POTA virgin. Field radio was nothing new to me but not tried to do a POTA activation yet. Need 10 QSO’s from the park to count.
We finally got a date in diary and decided on a local park Rothwell Country Park G-0248 as it was fairly close to both of us.
Now the decision of what to take? IC-705, nice and light but only 5/10 watts or IC-7300, 100 watts of power but going to need some heavy batteries. In the end took both but only really used the IC-7300.
Had a great day and I got 15 contacts with G5LSI getting 24 and to top it off we were the first to activate the park!
The sad news was on getting home, I unpacked my bag and found out I had left my mast at the park, by the time i got back to the park it had gone. š
